CHILDREN'S CATHOLIC INSTRUCTION PROGRAMME (CCIP)

The CCIP prepares our English-speaking young people to receive the sacraments of First Holy Communion, Reconciliation and Confirmation. On occasion, special classes are given for older children who have yet to be baptized, so that they may receive this sacrament, as well as the above-mentioned sacraments where their age makes that appropriate.

Classes are held Saturday mornings (September to June) from 9.15a.m. to 10.30a.m. Registration for the program takes place in mid-August.

Interested parties are requested to listen out for announcements at our Sunday Masses at the beginning of August. Posters with detailed information are also posted on our Church bulletin boards.

Parent(s) are requested to accompany their child for registration, bringing along the child's Baptismal Certificate, and a copy of the same.

In the case of registration for Confirmation, a copy of the sponsor's certificate of Baptism and Confirmation is also required.

Age requirements:

First Holy Communion

- from the age of 8 years

Confirmation

- between the ages of 12 and 16 years

CHILDREN'S CHOIR

Halfway through the year 1998, the members of the English-language Pastoral Committee (EPC) reached a consensus that there was a standing significant need for a relevant follow-up program for those children who have successfully completed Rosary Church's well-established English-based catechism curriculum. Upon the discernment of the EPC and at the initiative of then associate pastor Fr. John Casey, M.M., the decision was made to constitute the Rosary Church Children's Choir.

The Children's Choir was established not only to nurture and develop our young parishioners' musical abilities but also to serve as a means for on-going spiritual formation.

From an initial roster of 13 members, the choir flourished into a community of 30 regular members on average, a support group of parent coordinators and a band of dedicated alumni in a span of seven years.

The children - aged 7-12 years and of varying ethnicity - attend regular rehearsals every Saturday afternoon where they undergo intensive Sight Reading/Ear Training sessions and make preparations for scheduled parish liturgies, para-liturgies and other special social functions under the auspices of their choral director Ruel Trinidad and instrumentalist Butch Durias. Their annual calendar is divided into two six-month terms with corresponding term-breaks during summer and immediately after Christmas. There are no rehearsals during public holidays and orientation for new members is always on-going.

All through the years, the choir has also become a catalyst for fostering community fellowship through their array of annual Halloween costume-parties, Christmas get-togethers, birthday surprises, reunions and family outings. The parents' essential supportive role in the program becomes ever more distinctly relevant during the organization of such blithe occasions.

Blessed with talented and committed young alumni, the Children's Choir also proved to be a fertile pool for potential lay ministers for Rosary Church now and in the future.

With thanksgiving and fervent hope, the choir continues to imbibe divine grace, strength, guidance and encouragement day-by-day - and for years to come - so that it may constantly provide inspiration to the worshipping community of Rosary Church. Amidst the joys and blessings already incurred all through our hundred years as a parish community, we expectantly aspire for Jesus our Lord to perpetually shine forth brightly in the radiant faces and angelic voices of our children; through their love of music and of each other.

MUSTARD SEED CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP (ENGLISH-SPEAKING)

Under the guidance of Fathers Roman Carter, O.P. and Harold Naylor, S.J., the group has a solid base of core members who meet for prayer and fellowship weekly. It also continues to attract and welcome new participants to its number. Among its activities, the MSPG facilitates a series of bi-monthly Healing Masses in our parish, which are well-attended. Members of the group continue to play an important part in the promotion of charismatic prayer, evidenced by their strong participation in helping to organize the bi-annual territory-wide Charismatic Prayer Gatherings (at Advent and Pentecost).

Members of the Mustard Seed Prayer Group are among the most active in our parish as regards participation in other ministries. MSPG meet at 8.00p.m. every Wednesday in the 1st Floor Meeting Room of the church rectory.

THE FILIPINO CATHOLIC ASSOCIATION

Objectives:

The FCA was appointed "ad expirimemtum" by His Lordship, Lawrence Bianchi, Bishop of Hong Kong, on 8th April 1958, and has for its objective the preservation of the faith of its members, and their sanctification.

It shall be ruled by its own statutes which do not bind under pain of any sin.

Any Filipino Catholic, free from ecclesiastical impediment may be admitted into the Association.

The Association places itself under the patronage of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, whom it shall honour in a special way on the 13th of October of each year.

The President is first in dignity among the members of the association, and he must esteem his office not only as an honour, but also or rather as a burden to be borne for the glory of God and the good of the members of the Association.

The President shall represent the Association before all other organizations. Mindful of the honour of having the Blessed Virgin as their Patroness, the members of the Association shall recite collectively a part of the Rosary before or after the monthly meeting.

Members shall endeavour always to perfect the knowledge of the faith, sharing its blessings with others, especially with their own countrymen, and shall devote themselves under the direction of Superiors to works of charity and mercy, either singly or collectively in the Parish or elsewhere, according to the circumstances of the time and local necessities, and as far as their condition and capacity will permit.

The sick members shall be visited and assisted spiritually. Visitors of the sick shall be appointed for this purpose.

The death of a member of the Association shall be announced as soon as possible to the other members, who, unless reasonably prevented, shall personally attend the obsequies for the deceased.

Activities:

  1. Meetings on the first Sunday of each month, signing up new members, if any.

  2. Celebrants of that month are blessed by priest in charge.

  3. Those who wish to join the choir are welcome, but will have an audition on that day, after the meeting.

  4. The choir sing regularly at the 12.30p.m. Mass on Sunday after which they gather in the Meeting Room for rehearsals and recite the Rosary afterwards.

  5. For further information, you can contact Mrs. Remy Sabinano at 2314 8554.

LIFE TEEN

Rosary Church Kowloon has initiated a youth ministry, which aims to reach out to English-speaking teenagers and allow them the unique opportunity of a faith experience that has touched the lives of so many young people all over the world.

The program is called LIFE TEEN.

The goal of Life Teen is to create an environment to lead teens into a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Life Teen endeavors to reach teens on all levels: emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social.

What makes this program so exceptional is that it is centred on the Eucharist. Each week, a special youth-oriented Mass is celebrated, which is followed immediately by a YOUTH-ONLY Life Night where issues relevant to young people are "creatively" discussed in light of the teachings of Christ and his Church. The Teen Mass and Life Night primarily aim to lead teens to a deeper relationship with Christ and challenge them to live out the responsibilities of their faith journeys.

Life Teen was started in the United States in 1985, but has since spread to many Catholic communities around the globe. Here in Asia, parishes in Japan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines have adopted this program. Rosary Church is the first parish in China to offer the Life Teen program to its youth.

We at Rosary Church are very enthusiastic in bringing this program to the teens not only of our parish but of other parishes within the Hong Kong diocese as well.

Life Teen Masses (anticipated) in English are scheduled every Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Rosary Church, 125, Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. The entire family and teenagers - in particular - are invited to attend. And if they wish so, the teens are most welcome to share the unique experience of the exclusive Life Night sessions that follow in the church hall immediately after mass.

For more details, you may contact Rosary Church Kowloon's Youth Minister Ruel F. Trinidad at 9490 1084. You may also visit Life Teen's official web site http://www.lifeteen.com for more information about the program worldwide.

We urge you, come and see!
